The World’s most powerful Mercedes four-cylinder turbo engine in series production

The Mercedes four cylinder is set to give an output of up to 310kW which translates to 421 horsepower, the AMG 2.0 liter M139 engine has been termed as the most powerful ending in the series production. With this turbo charged engine, Mercedes-AMG has even exceeded the previously most powerful M 133 by 30kW (41 hp). Affalterbach is the home where the new, highly efficient powerpack is being produced on an innovative production line on the “One Man, One Engine” principle.

The four-cylinder will be available in two output versions that will ensure agile performance for the compact models: with a 421 horsepower for the S-model and a 387-horsepower engine in the base version. The product policy logic is proven a success for the V8 powered AMG Performance models, and also meets customer wishes.

The new engine gives an impressive immediate response along with its performance figures. The torque has been carefully balanced at a peak of 500 newton meters in the S model that is available in the range of 5000-5250 rpm and 480 nm of torque achieved at 4750-5000 rpm in the basic version. With this configuration, the AMG engineers have achieved a power delivery similar to that of a naturally aspirated engine. The engine development team were able to improve agility when they realized a dynamically increasing torque curve in the lower engine speed range. The engine is more free-revving with the increasing torque at higher rpm. The m139 is confirmed as a sports engine as the high maximum engine speed is up to 7200 rpm.
