Land Rover has truly gained more respect from the automotive world after its production of the Defender, which is touted as one of the most iconic cars to have ever been produced. Given the model's fame, the British carmaker is set to bring the car back in a completely revolutionary avatar, one which will be the most high-tech car yet, in accordance with a report by Autocar UK.
In a statement, Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth said that it was one of the saddest moments of his career to end production of the old defender. Hence, they are working extremely hard to provide it with a genuine successor.
Also, the report goes on to confirm that the mighty Defender will be available in two wheelbase variants--2922mm and 3120 mm in standard and long wheelbase guises but will feature short overhangs for better off-road capabilities. The suspension duties will reportedly be handled by the Discovery/Range Rover's independent setup and will be powered by the automaker's four-cylinder versions of modular Ingenium engine. Moreover, it is anticipated to come with a selection of manual and automatic gearboxes.
Speth continues that Jaguar Land Rover is already testing the mules at secret locations worldwide and it looks "fantastic".
The Defender is anticipated to be unveiled in 2019 or 2020 and is eyed to hold huge significance for the company upon its debut, taking into account that it has great expectations to live up to. For now, the automotive world can only watch and wait on the developments surrounding the car.
