Range Rover Sport Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has been used to pull off crazy driving challenges around the world. The latest challenge took by the mighty SUV is taking the 99-turn, 999-stepped Heaven’s Gate road on Tianmen Mountain in China. Beginning the journey from the bottom of the seven-mile Tianmen Mountain Road, the Range Rover Sport 400e took the snaking course to its summit, where the car faced the 45-degree staircase approach to the Heaven’s Gate. The challenge was completed in 22 minutes and 41 seconds by renowned Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Ho-Pin Tung. The successful completion of the task made Tung and the Range Rover Sport P400e, the first driver and car in the world to ascend to Heaven’s Gate. Earlier this year, Range Rover Sport PHEV went up against open water swimming world champion Keri-anne Payne and endurance athlete Ross Edgley to prove its power as a capable off-road PHEV. The Dragon Challenge was performed to prove that PHEV off-road vehicle is as capable as a petrol driven SUV. As a part of the challenge, Ho Tin Tung made use of the car’s petrol engine and the electric motors were there to deliver instant power.
