The 56-year-old Ferrari breaks the prevailing car auction record of another Ferrari 250 GTO for $38.115 million set in 2014. The car is one of the four that Scaglietti upgraded in period with Series II GTO/64 and one among the seven to receive more aggressive bodywork. The car has numbers matching with the V12 powertrain. As per RM’s catalogue, GTO experts rate this particular classic car as “one of the most authentic and original of all GTO examples”. This particular car also scored race wins from during the period 1962-1965. Notably includes Phill Hill who drove it in practice before the 1962 Targa Florio and Edoardo Lualdi-Gabardi drove it to win the 1962 championship. Other notables include Gianni Bulgari and Maurizio Grana drove it to a class win in the 1963 Targa Florio while Corrado Ferlaino and Luigi Taramazzo did the same in 1964.
